MIMI SOYA

Formed in 2006, Mimi Soya are a pop band from Brighton. Having already been labelled as the Cities Paramore, the quartet have just released their second EP and are ready to detach themselves from the ear-sore Paramore title and prove they have a sound they can proudly call their own. Since the release of their whimsically titled EP – I Can’t Stand Pop Bands – Mimi Soya have set up camp in the music industry and they’ll be hoping home time never comes.
Their new EP consists of four energetic pop tracks, with fun loving and lively harmonies. With each band member having input into the creation of the tracks, it’s very much a team effort. Since the decision to instate Jorja as the vocalist, after her audition, the band have been flooded with comparisons and labels all formed on the opinion they’re trying to be the Paramore of the UK. However on this tour I think they’ll finally kill the label and silence the critics.
Performing in Newcastle on Wednesday 21st July, Mimi Soya are touring with welsh band Through Colour. After support from a local band – 3 Ways of Thinking – and the welsh quintet, Mimi Soya took to the stage only to be greeted by a disappointingly small crowd. However that didn’t hold them back and they showed no sign of nerves as the band performed their selection of ridiculously catchy pop tracks. Vocalist Jorja continuously belted out the lyrics to the best of her ability as the quartet didn’t disappoint. Highlights were tracks from their EP – ‘Millionaire’ and ‘I told You So’. Although the crowd was a small number, those who were there fully appreciated the band. Hopefully this tour will gain them more fans and the recognition they deserve.
