Bring Me The Horizon were welcomed to the Colchester Arts Centre by a sold out crowd, which queued from the early afternoon right up to 20mins after doors were supposed to open.
I suppose whether you like these guys or not (Marmite band?) you cannot argue the fact that they can draw a crowd at any venue.
The Arts Centre full to the brim joined the list of rammed venues these young guys have played to and after amazing sets by ‘Tek-One’ and the furious ‘Cancer Bats’, Ollie Sykes and Co. walked onto stage to an eruption of girl based screams and applause.
The band took to the centre stage in very dark light (which was a current theme for all the bands) where as soon as Ollie was visable they hit the p.a systems with thunderous bass and heavy guitar & vocals, immediately causing the crowd to go insane and letting the party commence.
Songs such as ‘It Never Ends’ and the newest song ‘F*ck’ (which was uploaded to the bands MySpace etc very recently) went down a delight to the young crowd.
To me I didn’t think the enthusiasm of the band was 100% but none the less put on an emphatic set. With Ollie talking to the crowd (which seemed to have lessened since the Cancer Bats finished) and getting right up at the front posing for the onslaught of flash photography from the nearby rows, enthusiasm wasn’t on the minds of this audience. They were just happy to see one of the ‘hottest’ acts in the UK at the moment.
I personally feel that the band has done tremendously well with their rise to fame, but I think it may have come to quick for the lads. Being a young band with the obvious talents they all posses in the music industry, it must be hard for them to see clearly. A lack of unison affects their show sometimes and on this occasion I feel it was happening, with Ollie being the most active while the rest of the band are near enough background statues in comparison.
Whether your a fan of these guys or not, its hard to deny the talent and success and with the release of their newest album ‘There is a Hell believe me I’ve seen it, there is a Heaven lets keep it a secret’ on October 4th, this could very well cement them as one of the UK’s top metal/rock acts.
Verdict : Go see BMTH if they play in your area, even if your not a fan I think its one of those bands you have to judge live due to the mass hype and success they have.
