Norwich rock/post hardcore 4-piece DEPTH talk to Noise Addiction about news on their new EP and much more.

How did the band originally form and when?

DEPTH originally formed roughly 7 years ago (ish). It was a bit random but Paul and Ryan had played together before in a small local band while Luke and Robb started jamming togther after school playing classic songs messing around. We decided to get together and play a selection of songs from our favourite bands at the time and things has just progressed from there! From covers to Originals.

What makes you different to other bands in the same genre?

Thats always a tough question to answer. I guess we’re different to others because we really go for it. Every show, no matter where or who we give 200% into our performance. 1 person or 1000, same show.

You signed a one album deal with Rising Records to release your debut album ‘Situations Fulfilled’ in 2010 – How does it feel to be able to put a full length CD out there? How was it received?

It feels amazing knowing our music is out there for the world to get hold of. Its hard to get noticed as an unsigned band, but to be given the opportunity to write a whole album is just great. Even better getting to hear all the opinions of the top music magazines out there so we can build and learn from reviews. All in all an accomplishment for us.

You’ve been in the studio recording for your second album – How’s that coming along and when can we roughly expect it?

The new EP is sounding great, we’ve really listened hard to reviews and our fans. Stayed ourselves with our writing but really improved we feel. Should be ready for everyone to enjoy early 2012! A couple of the tracks are up for free download on our Facebook now so if you want a preview head over to facebook.com/depththeband

What do you consider when writing your music?

Just feel good music that gets your heads banging. Good energy in music is great and we try our best to write like that. We know when we’re on the right track because when we play it together in the band hut we all smile!

Who is the main songwriter? Do you all have an input on what the lyrics are?

Our writing usually starts with a rift idea from anyone. We’ll build from it the best we can and hopefully create something awesome. As for lyrics Paul and Luke will usually sit down and have some serious sessions listening over to rough recordings of tracks and laying down lyrics. They will bring back any ideas they have to the band hut, jam it out and if there’s anything we’re not too keen on, we’re never afraid to tell each other and improve.

You’ve shared the stage with some popular bands like My Passion, Exit Ten, Deaf Havana and Shadows Chasing Ghosts to name a few, but who’s been your favourite to play with so far?

My Passion were amazing. Enjoyed every show with them. More recently we’ve had a great time sharing the stage with up coming talent such as Burn The Headlines, Avosetta and Everything Burns. All awesome bands and worth the listen!

What would be the perfect tour for you – Who would you share the stage with?

Corr… We’re all massive lovers of Story Of The Year, Rise To Remain and Young Guns just to name a few. So any of them would be a dream to tour with!

What can people expect from your live show?

Massive amounts of energy, sweat and an all round good time! Hopefully you’ll all be leaving singing the lyrics!

What’s your plans for the rest of 2011 and for 2012?

We have a few more shows left for 2011 along with the finishing touchs to our new EP. 2012 should be bringing a new music video and lots more shows so make sure you get along to a show and check out DEPTH!
