Hailing from Preston, England pop/punk band Next Stop Atlanta take some time out to answer some questions for Noise Addiction.
As we head into a New Year what was the bands highlights and lowlights throughout 2011?
(Georgia – Vocals) We don’t have any lowlights really. Whenever we come off tour, we have a few days afterwards where we all feel a little low. We enjoy touring and playing shows so much that when we don’t, we have withdrawals.
Who’s your biggest inspiration?
(Nik – Guitar) Bands like Glassjaw, Taking Back Sunday, Rufio. And artists who strive to keep integrity in their work. Springsteen, Sigur Ros, Michael Jackson.
What can we expect from your upcoming shows in the next few weeks?
(Ant – Drums) Expect new songs! We can’t wait to play them and see how folk receive them. Also, plenty of energy and passion, as always!
Who’s your tip for the top for 2012?
(Georgia) We are! I think Lower Than Atlantis are going to break out for sure.
(Blake – Bass) Me vs Hero could stake a claim in being the ones to watch also.
You’ve announced a date for an upcoming mini-album ‘The Things You Do Best’ set for February 14th – How’d the recording process go?
(Nik) Yeah really well. We demoed all the songs before heading down to Studio Glasseye, and we knew then that the songs were really strong. We were hoping Dan (Lancaster) could put that extra bit of studio magic on them… he has!
What can fans and new listeners expect from the new mini-album?
(Ant) A step up to the mark. This record will showcase our songwriting and individual talents. And we have more to give. We are only just getting started.
Are there any festivals that you want to play this year?
(Georgia) We have said for the passed couple of years that we would love to play Slamdunk Festival and Hevy too. Maybe this year?!…
What else can we expect from the band in 2012?
(Blake) Music videos to support the mini-album release. They will feature on select Sky tv channels and also online on various video sites.
(Nik) More touring too. We wont stop this year, we will push NSA as far as we can.
Are there any bands that you guys would like to work with in the future, if so, who are they an what kind of music would you like to make with them?
(Ant) I think I speak for most when I say Foo Fighters. Just to sit in a room and jam with those guys would blow our minds. They are pioneers. We would just hit record and jam for as long as physically possible!
What do you all think of music reality shows like the XFactor, do you think they’re a good thing for up and coming artists that wouldn’t normally get a chance or do you think that they should be scrapped?
(Nik) They can benefit certain artists. Leonna Lewis springs to mind. I think the whole music reality show has run its cause now. I would never put myself in that position, but I can see why musicians take the opportunity. The business is so competitive, any exposure like that would be a stepping stone in propelling your act/brand.
Who made you want to be in a band?
(Georgia) Sid Vicious.
(Nik) Meatloaf.
(Blake) Mark Hoppus.
(Ant) John Bonham.
Does it annoy you that just because you’re a female fronted pop/punk band, you’re continually compared to Paramore?
(Blake) No, not at all. We expect it. There are obvious comparisons, but people jump the gun a little. Sit down and listen to our music intently, or come to our shows, you will see and hear that we are nothing like the Paramore.
Since its just been Christmas, here’s a festive question for you! Would you ever write a Christmas song?
(Nik) We have one ready for next year!
What’s the strangest thing a fan has ever said/ given you?
(Blake) We have been given sweets and kinder egg toys at shows, but thats not really strange.
(Ant) A fan told me she wanted me to play her bongos. Moving on..
And finally, have you got any crazy new years resolutions and will you keep them?
(Nik) I have adopted a penguin. I have made myself a promise that I will be more charitable.
(Georgia) I am going to stick to my gym routine!
(All) THANK YOU!!!
