ORPHAN BOY – POPSONG (SINGLE)
Released 19th July (Concrete Recordings)

4/5

Words: Mark Robinson

Three-piece Orphan Boy have created a wonderful little pop song here, irony not included, which also happens to have a deeper, darker heart then one might first think. The lyrics flow like an open diary singing the frustrations of the music industry that ask to “Trim down the intro and lose those rock drum fills”. There is a lyrical charm much in the same vein as Damon Albarn and Alex Turner that means Orphan Boy should not be taken for granted. Oh yeah the music is bloody lovely as well; it feels earnest and warm and it makes the bitterness of the lyrics cut through deeper. Fingers crossed the boy from EMI was listening.
