DEAD AND DIVINE – ANTIMACY
Released 2nd August 2011 (Wolf At Your Door Records)
Words: Richard Heaven
By the time Grim Love is over, you will know that Matt Torbin isn’t fronting when he screams ‘I WILL COMMIT’. This could be the perfect manifesto for the Canadian five pieces newest album ‘Antimacy’, a record that is as steadfast in its sound as Matt suggests.
Despite staying quite safely inside the metalcore pen, Antimacy manages to raise its head above the crowd by unashamedly embracing its Every Time I Die influences. Tracks like Asphyxia Fiend and Slum Lord keep the album interesting by breaking away from the constant metalcore screams with some beautifully melodic singing.
Unfortunately by the time Cult/Misleader begins Antimacy may have become a little too predictable for anyone who isn’t a rabid metalcore fan. I personally feel that Dead and Devine’s instrumental contribution (Nothing Is Alright) is lost by being used as an outro – if it was used mid album it would have provided a refreshing break from the continued aural onslaught.
Antimacy doesn’t rewrite the rulebook but it does provide fans of the genre with a passionate, well crafted chapter of sound.
