LOST WITHOUT CAUSE – TAKE BACK EVERYTHING
Released 8th April 2011
Words: Gaz Martinez
“I just wanted to build you up, to break you down again.” Is the first line that makes its way into your head and refuses to go anywhere else, luckily for Lost Without Cause, it is far from the only one, and there are plenty of decent hooks to sing along to, with appropriate gang vocals recorded of course. Listening to this EP for the first time, Si’s vocals are a treat to grace my ears with, changing styles throughout the EP, sounding much like Brian Molko (Placebo) at the beginning, eventually ending up sounding like Grant Nicholas (Feeder) by the end.
As for the songs themselves, the highlight of this EP definitely has to be You Won’t Know, the ending change of pace was unexpected but more than welcome, Sense, a little acoustic number also deserves an honourable mention, while the intro to Come On! Sounds like Feeder doing disco, showing that these guys are clearly unafraid of mixing it up a little. Before finally belting you round the face with Situation, a confident and solid way to close Take Back Everything or to get people out of their seats and swinging their hair about.
One would normally think that seven tracks is perhaps too much for an EP but LWC manage to pack Take Back Everything with enough variety, melody and general musicianship to ensure that it is a very pleasing listen. If this is the kind of material that Lost Without Cause can consistently create, then I’m sure we’ll be seeing their faces on front covers and television screens before long.
