MISSING ANDY – GENERATION SILENCED
Released 16th October 2011 (Invasion Records)
Words: Emma Lawrence
If you don’t know who Missing Andy are, then you really should. Because I sense that 2012 may just be their year! They have just released their much anticipated debut album “Generation Silenced” this month, and its sure to be a hit with the kids.
The album is filled with upbeat songs of social commentary, and single “Kings for the Weekend” is a definite stand out track, with its happy guitar and dancy drum beat you can’t help but tap your feet to it. The song is about just having a good time with your friends, which is something that I’m sure the band target audience can probably understand. The other stand out track for me was “Indie Kid”, which seemed slightly ironic, just because they seem to be taking the mickey out of their fans, people with pretentious haircuts and jeans that are too tight for them, they could lose some fans with this one track! But I see the funny side of it as I’m sure most of you guys will too.
Amongst the happy upbeat tunes are two slower gem’s that build and build to reveal great drum beats and guitar riffs!“Rain on my Parade” is the first, it’s a slow burner and a track that reaches a crescendo as it gets closer to the end, with big powerful guitars and storming vocals. The piano in it gives it a nice ‘pop’ edge too. Next up is, “SCUM” another slow track, which much in the same vein of “Rain on my Parade”. A grim social commentary on how young people are seen today by their elder counterparts.
Overall the album is good and lead singer Alex Greaves mix of melodical vocals and ‘rap’ parts in the songs bode well for the band. I get the impression that Missing Andy wants people to know what they are thinking about life as a 20something in London, and I understand where they are coming from with it. In Missing Andy I see what Hard-Fi could have had, if they hadn’t sold out and started designing the side of beer bottles instead of making music! But Missing Andy give more, and the aggression in their songs is heard and hopefully understood by their listeners. They are a band that have a bright future, keep up the good work boys!

I that the review is good. Some of the comments don’t really seem to make sense though? Have you guys actually read the review she says that indie kid has been written in jest!
Generation Silenced and Missing Andy’s songs in general are amongst the most creative and well crafted songs that I’ve heard. The lyrics are inventive and very well thought through and there’s a strong message in a lot of the songs.
But don’t let me put you off by making you think that this album us gonna’ be hard work to listen to because it is EXACTLY the opposite.
Generation Silenced is a collection of brilliant pop songs that lift you up, make you cry, make you smile and make you want to sing all at the same time. I know that the word pop is out of fasion and should sometimes be replaced with the word PAP, but in this case it definitely means POP – Popular because the album is incedibly popular among EVERYONE that has heard it. The problem is that the world needs to hear it.
Bring on the revolution!!!!
Indie Pen Dude.

I first heard missing andy a long while back on the music channels it was the song ‘Made In England’ as soon as I heard it I instantly loved it. I dont think they get the attention they should, there such a good band and in my opinion very unique. I like the fact they sing with there accent if that makes sense, a lot of singers (English) sing American, and they don’t. I think 2012 is going to be their year.
Amazing band that need more recognise and I will continue to support them.
really balanced review and glad this album is getting some recognition, couldnt agree more with some of the above comments also as Missing Andy seem to still have a strong fanbase!
This album IS the best album ive purchased in a long time, its a good review, i just think the marking is bang out of order, for me its definatley 5/5, but understanding that were all different, and have different tastes i think 4 would have been more appropriate, considering the quality of the writing, music, production and originality!!
Couldnt agree more!
I have yet to introduce this album to anyone who hasn’t immediately purchased it. That is across a broad spectrum of ages and social/geographic areas… Exceptional album, well presented, icing on the cake is that these boys are cracking live performers!
Its true that we all have different tastes in music so no critisicim on your views but for me this has been one of my best album purchases of the year! The thing about Missing Andy is the dont need to target to a particular audience as they already strike chords in the hearts & voices of a broad range of fans, all ages, all backgrounds! Ironic as it may seem, Indie Kid is one of their most popular songs, especially live! It is taken by their fans with the jest that was no doubt intended when the guys penned it! For me this album is a treasure chest of gems, each song with its own message & style, which varies depending on which band member had the most input in to its development! Missing Andy are talented song writers & performers and whilst I love this album, I’m looking forward to what else they have in them! 5/5 at least from me
I LOVE Indie Kid! It’s a brilliant song! … And so are Missing Andy!!
Don’t think you’ve done this justice.
