PEOPLE ON VACATION – THE CARRY ON EP
Released 26th March 2012 (Brando Records)

Words: Emma Lawrence

People On Vacation are a band which until very recently I hadn’t heard of. They are the brain child of Bowling For Soup’s frontman Jaret Reddick and indie rock group Smile Smile frontman Ryan Hamilton. They could not be further away from Bowling For Soup if they tried!

Their latest offering comes in the form of ‘The Carry on EP’. It’s a chilled out six track EP which is filled with indie/pop. This record is perfect if you don’t like listening to Bowling For Soup’s pop-punk tunes.

Anyway enough about them and back to the music of People On Vacation! Opening track ‘Better off Dead’ is a slow song, but a goodie! It has a good melody and is a grower for sure.  A stand out track for me was ‘She Was the Only One’ which is about a love that’s been lost. It has a more upbeat melody and although it’s about something sad, the tempo of the song doesn’t make it sound depressing at all. Most of the songs have the same type of melody, but that’s not a bad thing! In fact it helps the band create a style of their own.

Overall this is a good EP and will be great to listen to on hazy summer days with your friends. It’s definitely not for those who expect them to sound like Bowling For Soup and definitely one you should check out!
