PINS & PUPPETS – WHAT’S WITHIN
Released 21st September 2012
Words: John Newspeaker for Noise Addiction
What’s within… well I’ll tell you…
A very nice little pop song indeed!
Female fronted four piece Pins and Puppets, with their Evanescence/Paramore-esque vocals, could have trouble getting out of the obvious pigeon holes, but this well written track of exactly four minutes of very listen-able material stands up on its own merit.
Starting off with a rock steady back-beat, What’s Within soon turns into a Girrrl power, guitar driven Pop Rock song with catchy choruses and tempo changes that keep you interested all the way through, right to the full 240 second mark. Maybe if it doesn’t work out they could sell the song to Gwen Stefani, as it’s good enough to work on a much bigger level, but whether the band have the ability to get all their ducks in a line to the music industry is another matter. I feel they need to take the band out of the bedroom and into a slightly bigger world where they will only benefit from good strong management to help forge them their own identity and style… but as a composition it’s very good, and after ten listens I’m sure I even heard the kitchen sink being thrown in.
So girl power to your elbows P&P, make sure you back it up!
