PRESS TO MECO – PRESS TO MECO
Released 9th July 2012 (Self-Released)
Words: Rebecca Dixon
London based three piece band, Press To Meco release their debut self-titled EP and it is definitely not one to be missed. Despite being a debut, this band is in no way unknown and has put in a lot of leg work with an impressive 200 date tour with Hopeless Heroic. This undeniable enthusiasm and passion for what they are doing is also presented in their EP. You would never have guessed that it was recorded in a friends’ shed as we are given a fun filled, mixture of sounds that shows Press To Meco are more than willing and able to compete with similar artists.
The EP can be thoroughly enjoyed in its entirety however each track also stands alone. Your attention is grabbed straight away with the ball of fire that is Burning The Reward. We hear punchy, complex instrumentation for the most part and accompanied by the softer sections and memorable lyrics you can easily imagine being chanted in a live setting, it is a promising start to the EP. This promise is in no way broken by the time you get to Rational Way and the enthusiasm for what you are listening to is only strengthened by the tracks All The Same and Loose Rooms.
Impressive three part harmonies are held in each track as well as already stated, complex instrumentation. Loose Rooms is definitely a stand out track. It is creative, addictive and clever with the smoothness of the track despite inspired riffs and changes in tempo taking you to a different place and this is what music is all about.
Ultimately Press To Meco’s EP is a lot of fun and full of more than enough energy and creativity (both lyrically and instrumentally) for a full album. Clearly, Press To Meco have a lot more to give and it is hard not to be excited for what is yet to come from this band after listening to their debut which makes you yearn to see how this energy is transferred to a live show. It is continuously impressive throughout and is Pop Punk as you wish it would always be.
