PUDDLE OF MUDD

This UK tour, is the first time singer Ryan McCombs has sung for Soil since he left the band in 2004, having spent the last 6 or so years in Drowning Pool. There still seems to be tension between the band members, but this adds to the excitements amongst the sold out crowd. The set list isn’t any different from the last time they played Norwich Waterfront, back in 2002, meaning crowd sing/screamalongs. Ryan McCombs is a great frontman, you never know what he’s going to do next, from throwing a tantrum and walking off stage when his mic cuts out to walking amongst the crowd and doing their biggest ‘hit’ Halo from the middle of the moshpit.

In the 10 years since the release of breakthrough album ‘Come Clean’ Puddle Of Mudd have been touring and releasing albums but it’s only with this UK tour that people have noticed they are still around. A few member changes have happened, and an extra guitarist is employed to allow singer Wes Scantlin to concentrate on his vocals. Not having the burden of a guitar round his neck, allows Scantlin to spend the entire set off the from of the stage with his foot pressing against the barrier and his head in the crowd. Puddle of Mudd play it safe, with the set heavily focused on songs from Come Clean, and any newer songs keeping with the bands trademark grunge sound. Stand out songs were Control, Blurry and She Hates Me. Whilst the band are never going to be ground breaking, it’s a solid performance.
