SPECTOR – NEVER FADE AWAY
Released 13th August 2012 (Fiction)

Words: Emma Lawrence

I am not normally one to gush about a band when I review their singles, however I am going to take this opportunity to gush my little heart out over Spector. They are probably my favorite new band of 2012. I first heard them when I went to see Florence and The Machine in March 2012. And after hearing they were hand picked by the lovely Flo herself, I knew they would no disappoint.

“Never Fade Away” has the sing along factor to it; in fact this is something, which I witnessed when I caught a glimpse of them at T in The Park this weekend. Lead singer Frederick Macpherson is probably better known for his love life, he was once the beau of Peaches Geldof, than he is for his music and this simply shouldn’t be the case. Having been in the semi successful Les Incompetents from 2004 2006, and Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man. It’s safe to say, Fred knows his music.

However, this isn’t about previous bands that he’s been in. This is a review of Spector. The single has a pounding drumbeat that will make you tap your toes, even if you don’t want to. The lyrics are easy to remember, “You Know I’ll Never Fade Away”, is repeated several times, much like the rest of the lyrics in the song.

The harmonies of this song are well together and tight. In the last minute the song comes to an amazing crescendo, and makes you want to dance like Ian Curtis on a good day. The hand claps at the start and end of the song give a nice edge to the song and even if you’re not in a crowd in a muddy field watching Spector, you will find yourself clapping along.

This single fills me with glee every time I listen to it, and I’d be shocked if the same didn’t happen to you!
