SURRENDER THE COAST – BREAKING MORALS AND LOSING MORALE
Released 8th August 2012
Words: Charlie Wallis
Leicester hardcore outfit Surrender the Coast have a fair amount to prove with their new EP Breaking Morals and Loosing Morale since parting ways with their clean vocalist this album really is an exploration of their roots in the UK hardcore scene as well as a means of dealing with the issues surrounding the split from their former colleague.
This offering has passion in abundance with every song being driven home by punishing guitars and a strong vocal presence from frontman Andy Connelly. Opening track Pulling Teeth is as brutal, though maybe not as painful, as the track name suggests. The EP resounds with elements of both the UK and US hardcore scenes with reflections of bands like Polar and from across the pond, such heavy hitters as Of Mice and Men.
Breaking Morals and Loosing Morale, though not exactly stylistically revolutionary demonstrates a great degree of competence which should fuel this bands confidence and could be the springboard into much bigger things.
