TRANSIT – LISTEN AND FORGIVE

Rise Records step up to the pop punk podium again by releasing Listen and Forgive, the third album from MA’s Transit. It’s been a good year for pop punk with their contemporaries Man Overboard, The Wonder Years and Fireworks all releasing new material to a great reaction. So, how does Transit fare amongst all of this?

The title sums it up for me – I can listen to their third full length and forgive them for falling a little short of the mark after the previous two stella offerings. That’s not to say that it’s without its standout tracks – the title track channels everything that was great with Good Charlottes ‘The Young And The Hopeless’ and brings it into 2011 while the collaboration with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump features the soon to be tumblr-classic line ‘You made me into a monster, so I made you into art’. Cutting Corners sounds like it needs to be heard live where it’s chuggier sections can really shine.

Unfortunately both 1978 and Skipping Stone drags and their sub-par lyrics don’t make them any easier to listen to while Don’t Make A Sound flirts too closely to early/mid 2000′s indie for my taste. It’s a shame that the rest of the album doesn’t stay consistently great because if it was only these three tracks letting the bar drop then they’d almost be forgiven but Transit’s third offering is so over the place that you want to press stop far before the end.
