WE CAUGHT THE CASTLE – TIME TO GROW
Released 23rd July 2012 (Angry Badger Records)
Words: Emma Lawrence
I enjoy reviewing bands that I’ve never heard of or listened to before, simply because I love finding out about new music, and this is why I picked We Caught The Castle. A five-piece, female fronted, alt rock band. I love a bit of female fronted rawk!
One track that stood out for me was “That Poor Boy”. It is quick to start and makes good use of a gang chant, the riff is memorable too and the male/ female vocals work well together. It’s safe to say that lead singer Hollie Cobb can hold her own as the only woman in the band.
Another track which I enjoyed was “Ping”. It has a punchy drum beat, which gets your toes tapping. We Caught The Castle sound like an edgier, English version of Hey Monday, as vocally Hollie is similar to Casadee Pope. This song is one which sticks in your head and you find yourself doing air drums and guitar to it! It’s also quite handy that the words of the chorus are quite easy to remember!
The only downside to this album, if any, is most of the songs sound the same. They have the same type of drum fills and the same guitar riffs. However I am very much of the opinion “If its not broke, don’t fix it.” And clearly so are these guys.
Overall, it’s a good album for a first full length effort from the Reading five piece. These guys are definitely ones to watch for 2012, especially because female fronted bands are on the rise again!
