THE IDES MUSIC VIDEO – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2viIoB4JTU

SUBSOURCE SAY – “Four years ago, 20 miles south of central London, four people went into a studio to start a war.  Fucked off with so-called live dance acts mincing behind laptops, and rock acts with no more substance than the product in their hair we decided things had to change.

The snarl of Punk, the oscillating sub bass of dubstep, the harrowing melody of coldwave all had to be in there with as much of electronica’s glitches and edits, hip-hop’s flows, the galloping ferocity of drum’n’bass and metal as possible. No subgenre’s safe from the “treatment.”  The vivisection becomes complete when firing up the live beast. Amalgamated from double bass, synths, drums, guitars, and vocals, like an amphetamised Rottweiler running riot through a free warehouse party, tearing holes in speaker cones, our live shows leave saucer eyed audiences writhing in sweat-drenched ecstasy.

This is not a war of conflict but a war of unification.  Ravers throw shapes, as Rockers bang heads, and Rude Bois throw their hands in the air. Subsource are a Beat and Bass driven Rock act representing the underground UK dance music scene.  No treaty will be signed and the occupation will be total.”

Following October’s release of crowd favourite ‘The Reason (Parasite)’, Subsource’s electro, metal and unique take on dubstep (Substep anyone?) influences come to the fore on the socially charged track ‘The Ides’. This single will be released on 29th March with album ‘Tales From The Doombox’ set for release on 5th April. This ethos flows into the band’s art with the album cover for ‘Tales From The Doombox’ being a piece by street artist Faith47, who’s been dubbed the ‘South African Banksy’. The cover’s inscription statement of ‘build you up to tear us down’ reflects the nature of a self sufficient band who have fashioned lyrical paeans to the true accounts of island tribes fighting off oil companies. But it’s not all work and no play. A nod to their dance roots inspired them to create the Subsource iPhone rave app, complete with flashing glow stick and lighter, not that you’ll find many tender moments in a Subsource live set…

Catch the band’s exuberant live show at the following dates –

11th March – Hoxton Underbelly, London Onstage 9pm

12th March – Queen of Hoxton, London  16th March – Monarch, Camden, London Onstage 8.30pm 22nd – Water Rats, London Onstage 9pm 27th March – Wonka, Monkey Bar, Swansea 17th April – The Brickyard, Carlisle  19th June – Globe Theatre – Hay on Wye  25th September – The Big Noise, Swansea

Sorry and the Sinatras – UK Tour Confirmed – April 2010, 7 inch single: “Hated Heart” 5th April 2010

Posted on 10 March 2010 by Emma

SORRY AND THE SINATRAS
UK Tour Confirmed – April 2010

7 inch single: “Hated Heart”

5th April 2010

Album “Highball Roller” out now

Following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album “Highball Roller” in 2009, Sorry And The Sinatras are set to tour the UK in April 2010. the band are signed to Undergroove, the label behind acts such as The Ghost Of A Thousand, Hexes, Minus The Bear and Johnny Truant.

Formed by frontman / guitarist Scott Sorry – who currently also plays a mean bass with UK rock legends The Wildhearts – Sorry And The Sinatras specialize in high octane, kick-ass punk rock – high on flair, punishing, driving riffs, and spit ‘n’ sawdust professionalism. SATS also features fellow Americans Lenny Thomas (drums) and Roger ‘Rag’ Segal (bass / vocals), as well as UK guitarist Dave Kerr. The Anglo-American twist gives this quartet a musical chemistry that is truly reflected in ‘Highball Roller’.

‘Highball Roller’ is an honest, in-your-face punk rock ‘n’ roll record that reflect this quartet’s personalities – unpolished, missing teeth and self-medicated! It’s an album born out of years of searching for and finding dreams.

Says Scott: “Lyrically this record is about the years of couch surfing, addictions, heartache, and restlessness spent chasing a dream. It’s about guilt and coming to terms with the shit you’ve done while letting go of the shit you had no control over and laughing your ass off in the process. It’s not about feeling sorry for yourself, but embracing how chaotic life can get. These are the most honest songs we’ve ever written.”

From the opening, infectious track ‘Black & Blue’, through the vitriolic snarl and fury of ‘Burns City Burns’, to the raucous anthems ‘Hated Heart’ and ‘Riverside’, to the aural cacophony of closer ‘She’s So Vaudeville’, Sorry And The Sinatras demonstrate just how good rock music can be. ‘Highball Roller’ is a record that doesn’t just deserve to be heard, but commands your attention and, frankly, you won’t be disappointed. The album was recorded during the summer of 2008 over 10 days with Jason Sanderson (Rolo Tomassi, The Plight, The Mirimar Disaster, GU Medicine). Are you ready to get ‘High?

To tie in with the April 2010 tour, Undergroove will be releasing a limited edition 7 inch of single “Hated Heart”. This will also be available on download with new new tracks.

The Smoking Hearts – Announce UK Tour

Posted on 10 February 2010 by Emma

THE SMOKING HEARTS announce UK Tour
‘PRIDE OF NOWHERE’
Album to be released 8th March, 2010
www.myspace.com/smokinghearts

Download ‘George Street Wrestling’ for free here - http://tinyurl.com/smokingheartsDL

Lethal – Vocals  |  Barker – Guitars  |  Calvin – Bass  |  Nobba – Guitars  |  Matty – Drums

The Smoking Hearts will be stamping their mark on the British music scene on March 8th of 2010 with the release of debut album Pride Of Nowhere. The band has booked up a punk rock collection of dates around the record’s release. Storming out of rural England, The Smoking Hearts unleash a whirlwind combination of relentless punk rock and cutting rock’n’roll that is best experienced in the flesh so check out the full list of dates below.

Graceful is definitely not a word to describe The Smoking Hearts. Live shows have seen guitar headstocks smashed and drum kits sprawled across stages. It is not uncommon to find half the band on the floor with the crowd and, on occasion, half the crowd on stage with the band.

In their short career as a band, The Smoking Hearts have travelled thousands of miles, opening shows for the likes of Gallows, Bring Me The Horizon, Winnebago Deal and The Supersuckers, as well as some iconic acts such as Misfits and Skid Row.

Recorded on a farm in Bedfordshire with Nick Mailing (Quireboys/Trashlight Vision) and Mastered by Russ Russell (Napalm Death/The Wildhearts) over the course of just 14 days (and nights), ‘Pride of Nowhere’ clocks in at a frantic 29 minutes and 25 seconds. It is a record for many states of mind – these are songs that will inspire attitudes to party, drink, fight. But ultimately it is the anti-thesis of sitting around and letting things happen to you; it has everything to do with making life happen for yourself.

LIVE DATES ARE AS FOLLOWS –

Feb:

13th – Peter Parkers Rock N Roll Club      Denmark Street, London

23rd – Clwb Ifor Bach                                      Cardiff

Thao and The Get Down Stay Down – ‘Know better learn faster’ album released 2010

Posted on 08 February 2010 by Emma

Thao and The Get Down Stay Down
know better learn faster’ album released 2010
Label: Kill Rock Stars

Next UK show: March 16th at Borderline, London

Thao and the ever-versatile Get Down Stay Down (Adam Thompson on bass, keys and additional guitar, and Willis Thompson on drums and percussion) return with the follow up to their critically lauded and riotously applauded previous album, “We Brave Bee Stings and All”, the breakout success and best-selling record of 2008 for Kill Rock Stars.  With super-producer and friend Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, Bill Frisell, Spoon) again at the helm, Know Better Learn Faster perfectly captures the band as their more mature, tastefully raucous, tastefully subdued and musically adventurous selves.  Honed, trimmed and tightened over the last year and a half of constant touring, the now-trio delivers Thao’s cleverly crafted and emotionally evocative songs with vibrant, innovative instrumentation, incredible energy and a still-acutely-solid sense of what sounds good.  The new batch of songs spans all genres and influences, all the while staying faithful to their distinct style, sharp wit, and the infectious and enamoring exuberance of their renowned live shows.

But the band can be serious too.  Know Better Learn Faster is in many ways a boisterous, frenzied, and resigned break-up record, and with that territory comes a few songs wherein Thao does not employ her trademark method of juxtaposing brighter melodies with melancholic content.  “A few of these are just straightforwardly sad.  Sometimes there’s not much room to mince words and music when you feel like shit,” she says.

The diverse and wide-ranging songwriting only helps to showcase the trio’s formidable musicianship: all members have stepped up and expanded their repertoires to fill out the trio’s sound.  To further help the cause, the band was thrilled and humbled to enlist album guests Andrew Bird, Eric Earley of Blitzen Trapper, Laura Veirs, Horse Feathers, Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, Jenny Conlee of The Decemberists, and close friend and new 4AD artist Tune-Yards.

Know Better Learn Faster is a deeply felt, honestly rendered audit of the end of one or any number of relationships.  Thao says: “We are thankful for the opportunity to have explored and then purged all crippling tensions and anxiety inherent in such dramas and hope you enjoy the scrappy by-product.”

Krystle Warren – Next Big Thing show+ Soho Theatre residency

Posted on 02 February 2010 by Emma

KRYSTLE WARREN
HMV Next Big Thing at the Jazz Cafe 8th February
Four nights at The Soho Theatre 24th – 27th February
Debut Album ‘Circles’ 22nd February

Krystle Warren hails from Kansas City and learned to play the guitar by listening to Rubber Soul and Revolver. Her tastes range from Rufus Wainwright to Betty Carter, Willie Nelson to Nina Simone and she’s toured the US with Martha Wainwright, Zap Mama, Rodrigo & Gabriela and Erykah Badu.
There is no Krystle Warren-shaped pigeon-hole. The last few months have seen her equally at home at the London Jazz Festival’s “Jazz Voice” evening at the Barbican alongside the likes of Kurt Elling and Natalie Merchant, supporting country singer Diana Jones at Union Chapel, touring with the high priests of “vocal play” Naturally 7, and appearing alongside the likes of Green Gartside, Teddy Thompson, Lisa Hannigan and Vashti Bunyan on the Way To Blue – The Songs of Nick Drake tour last week.

This February Krystle Warren returns to London to play HMV’s ‘Next Big Thing‘ with Rox and Andreya Triana at the Jazz Cafe.

Monday 8th February
HMV Next Big Thing
The Jazz Cafe

http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/INFO/HMVNEXTBIGTHING/

Also in February, Krystle Warren will play a short run of late-night sessions at the Soho Theatre. Although accustomed to the arenas of theatre and comedy, the Soho Theatre has rarely before opened its doors to a live music act. It is therefore fitting that Krystle Warren will take the stage, combining her extraordinary vocal talent with a strong personality and charismatic stage presence, to set in motion a future of live music at the Soho Theatre.
This is a rare opportunity to see Krystle perform in a small studio theatre with an intimacy befitting to her musical style.
