January 2012 – Band Of The Month

What made you name your band To The Lions?

We were all in a band before To The Lions, just with an additional singer, when she left, we changed our direction drastically, so we decided we needed a new name. We put our music library on shuffle and waited to see if anything jumped out at us. We had a long list which we all disagreed on, and To The Lions was one of the only ones everyone liked!

Which bands do you draw inspiration from musically?

Machine Head, Meshuggah, Lamb of God, Hatebreed, The Haunted. A lot of metal, but you’ll find a lot more in our songs than just chuggy riffs, some have some quite catchy singalong choruses, and others have bluesy lead parts!

What can people expect from your live show?

A band who always give everything they have, whether it’s in front of 10 people or 100 people! Heavy breakdowns, mosh pits, and most of all, a good time for everyone!

What song would you recommend from your Facebook?

Breathe is the best example of the direction we are headed. We are also giving it away for free (along with ‘Step by Step’) on our official website (www.tothelions.co.uk).

December 2011 – Band Of The Month

What made you name your band Floodlights?

Well it’s quite a long and weird story but to shorten it, we spent ages trying to come up with a name during practices. I can’t remember what we’d settled for before as a temporary name but we didn’t like it much. Then a few practices in we were leaving practice pissing around when Alastair walked under a lamppost and just came out with “Floodlights” which we all liked the sound of and that’s pretty much how we came up with it.

What can people expect from your live show?

We like to share a lot of excitement on and off the stage and try to get the crowd involved as much as possible with alot of alcohol flying about, hopefully most of it staying down. Which at the end of it ends up looking more like a mixture of boobs and people punching each others lights out. The best thing is, once we get to 1000 likes on our facebook page Callum has agreed to play a full set in a mankini (shaving optional).

What song would you recommend from your Facebook?

Unfortunately we only have one demo currently up on our Facebook, but we will be back in the studio from January 2012 to record a couple more songs for you all so keep an eye out in a few months time.

November 2011 – Band Of The Month

What made you name your band Lamplight Hideouts?

We got the name “Lamplight Hideouts” from two things, Lamplight from a game, when we were stuck for names we thought we should name ourselves “Lamplight” off Fallout. The whole name was from a lyric off the Gaslight Anthem song “We’re Getting A Divorce” and we thought it was catchy and it looked good on posters and it kinda stuck.

What can people expect from your live show?

If you come to a Lamplight Hideouts show expect a full on, high energy punk rock show. We are influenced by punk, rock n roll, folk and everything in between. When we do play we try to get everyone involved and to have a little dance as they made the effort to be there so why not have a good time?

What song would you recommend from your Facebook?

We have two demos up on facebook at the moment called ‘Emily’ and ’1944′. Each track gives a good example of our sound and are the two staple songs of our set. Both songs were recorded in our bedroom, so look out for our new CD soon where we might upgrade to using a studio!

DEATH REMAINS

October 2011 – Band Of The Month

What made you name your band Death Remains?

Well the original idea of the band started over 5 years ago, we were originally called ‘After Death’, during that time we were signed to a small record label and got ourselves a 6 week tour covering Brazil, unfortunately 2 weeks into the tour we suffered the Deaths of two of our members who drowned while swimming in the sea on a day off from shows, it was a terrible time for us as we had grown up with the guys and known them for many years, so after the tragedy we called off the tour and headed back home to mourn. After about 6 months the 3 remaining members returned to the studio, sadly our front man at the time left so I Barry (Vocals) was playing drums at the time decided to go up front and find ourselves some new members, thats when we got Eljay (Guitar), Gaz(Bass) and Jai (Drums), we decided to rename the band as it was a completely different line up and sound, but we still wanted to pay tribute to the old band name and the guys, so we thought the word ‘Death’ should still be in the name and through all the stuff that happened we were still plugging on making the music we love so ‘Death Remains’ just seemed right. Now the line up has been going well for over a year and things are going awesome!

What can people expect from your live show?

A lot of energy! A lot of interaction, we try taking people through the emotional stages, anger, sadness, laughter, we want to make our show one to remember so when they come and see us again they can say to their friends “Yeah these guys are fucking sick live”.

What song would you recommend from your Facebook?

This is a hard one as we always get a lot of different people into different types of metal, some like the really heavy tracks like ‘Laid To Waste’ and some like the melodic stuff like ‘Innocence’ I guess it’s a good thing and with the new stuff we are writing we are hoping to please everyone! We have also just finished up recording a new single called ‘The Northern Line Massacre’ with the awesome Justin Hill (Sikth, Malefice, Bury Tomorrow, Viatrophy) it’s sounding huge!
