Posted on 01 March 2010 by Emma

“The Fine Line Between Choice/Decay”
1. Reinvent  2. What Are You Waiting For  3. Shelter Your Loss  4. Therapy Sessions In The Dark  5. Choice/Decay  6. In Your Headlights

EP Released April 26th

Available via CD and download, from iTunes, Amazon, HMV, Tesco, Napster and Spotify

www.brokenlinksmusic.co.uk

Diving into the lyrical and musical depths of free association, taking you on an emotional rollercoaster of despair to complete arousal. Influenced by the under-currents of post-punk, and then boxing it up into an old stone box made of pure hard industrial pop space rock and sin. A band you simply cannot ignore. An alternative act from Eastleigh, Southampton, the three piece is made up of Mark Lawrence on vocals and guitar, Lewis Betteridge on bass and Phil Boulter on drums. Heavily influenced by the 80’s, they count Joy Division, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, The Cooper Temple Clause and ‘Holy Bible’ era Manic Street Preachers amongst their influences.

“The Fine Line Between Choice / Decay” follows up the release of Broken Links debut EP “Resisting Movement and the Almost Advisory”, released in January this year. Mintsouth recently said of Broken Links “Unsigned bands shouldn’t be this professional.” They may have only been together for a year, but their development as a band is clear, and their second EP is testament to how they have matured in this time. Broken Links’ Mark Lawrence describes ‘We wanted to go a bit wild with the 2nd EP, and we’ve done exactly what we wanted to do musically, it’s a 41 minute ride to the dark side!!’

Broken Links formed in 2008, and spent much of the year honing in on their sound and self-recording their first EP. Their debut was written without amps, using pods and floor pedals for vocal effects, and was recorded from start to finish in Mark’s bedroom, capturing Broken Links angst ridden and downright dirty live sound perfectly.

2009 saw Broken Links perform over 40 live shows, including an appearance at Eastleigh Music Festival. The band have supported established acts British Sea Power, The Boxer Rebellion, My Vitriol, Official Secrets Act, Fighting with Wire, The Cinematics, Scarlet Soho, and Flamboyant Bella, picking up some die-hard fans along the way. They have taken their live show to well established venues such as The Purple Turtle (Camden), Powers (Kilburn), Boston Music Rooms (Tufnell Park), The Joiners (Southampton), Hectors House (Brighton), iBar (Bournemouth), The Railway Inn (Winchester), and Lennons (Southampton), with full intention of leaving watchers mesmerised by the wall of sound they create. A sound certainly not expected of a three piece. Broken Links are soon to take their sound across Europe, with a German tour now confirmed. A third EP is also in the pipeline.

Broken Links will be previewing tracks from their new EP at forthcoming gigs:

March 27th – The Bitter End, Romford / April 3rd – 10th – German tour / April 24th - The Joiners Arms, Southampton (EP launch)

May 6thThe Pipeline, London / May 8th – Blue Cat Cafe, Stockport / May 10th – The Cavendish Arms, London

May 29th – Soul Cellar, Southampton / June 19th – Alresford Music Festival / Nov 28th – The Brook, Southampton

London based pop punksters The Famous Class release their ‘Make Or Break’ EP on TFC Records on April 5 2010

Posted on 24 February 2010 by Emma

London based pop punksters The Famous Class release their ‘Make Or Break’ EP on TFC Records on April 5 2010.

The Famous Class are on a mission to bring a little bounce, a little cheer back to the masses. From the insanely catchy first single ‘Emily’ to the driving groove of ‘Losing The Game’, each of the five tracks on their imminently released debut EP are paeans to positivity.

“Lots of bands shy-away from making upbeat music,” says frontman Stoo, “But at times like these, there is more demand than ever for something more uplifting, and we love what we do, and we hope people will hear that in our music.”

Growing up on a diet of American pop-punk, this quartet have combined this much loved sound with a distinctly British twist to create something as driving and danceable as it is infectious and melodic.

The EP will be distributed online via i-Tunes, and will include their first single ‘Emily’, which will be supported by a music video. Also CD copies will be sold via the band’s online store and the flagship Oxford Circus HMV.

The band, consisting of Stoo on vocals and guitar, Justin on bass and vocals, Ben on guitar and Joe on drums, have already garnered something of a reputation as a stella live proposition too. Gigs at respected venues like the Barfly, the O2 Academy and The Scala in London have highlighted just how much FUN people can have at a The Famous Class show.

And now the band are looking to hit the road again and travel to all four corners of the UK, in support of their debut ‘Make or Break’ EP.

Shows to be announced soon. Check http://www.myspace.com/thefamousclass

The Famous Class take great pride in being a completely D.I.Y band, having total control of everything they do, from writing the music, to designing their own CD packaging and T-shirts, and making their own music video.

“We’re just four guys making music and getting it out there,” says Stoo. “There’s no label, no management… nobody making choices for us. That gives us the freedom to be who we are and make a band that we, ourselves would want to hear”.

And on April 5, you can hear ‘em too!

The Pipettes – Return with new album for 2010

Posted on 15 February 2010 by Emma

The Pipettes

  • UK Pop band return with brand new album ‘Earth vs Pipettes’
  • New single ‘Stop the Music’ released April 19th via Fortuna POP! Records

Format: limited edition red vinyl 7″/ CD EP + digital bundle

Girls singing retro-tinged tunes with synchronised dance moves? A Machiavellian pop experiment inspired by KLF’s The Manual cooked up in a Brighton boozer by the mysterious Svengali Monster Bobby? Well yes, but there’s been an evolution – a change in the genetics. The Pipettes are back, and now they’re a big shiny pop group. Or at least, that’s what they’d like you to believe.

In their first incarnation, donning polka dot dresses and referencing the girl groups of the late fifties in the heyday of skinny tie indie music, The Pipettes had remarkable success. A top ten album in Japan where the single ‘Pull Shapes’ was only kept off the number one spot by J-Lo, top ten radio positions all across Europe, two Top Forty hits in the UK and a Top Ten in the US billboard indies. They played on the main stages at Reading and Glastonbury, blazed a British trail across SXSW, conquered the world and sold a heap of records.

Having destroyed the male cock rock hegemony of the noughties and after Ronson, Winehouse, Duffy et al, the whole mini-movement that snowballed inexorably from that first polka-dot sleeved 7″, one might think the sensible thing for The Pipettes to have done, would be to simply sashay back in town with a sound as close as possible to the one we know them for and reclaim their rightful place at the head of the table. Not The Pipettes. They had promises to keep. A manifesto to follow. A five year plan.

Those promises were going to have to be kept with the loss of some personnel. Drummer Joe Lean left to find his Jing Jang Jong as Rose Elinor Dougall and RiotBecki left for solo careers away from what the band term “self-manufactured pop”. No bodies under the floorboards, no dramas, just the usual churn in pop bands… Rose, Joe and Becki had their own talents to explore whilst The Pipettes remain focused on exploring pop. And besides, The Pipettes retain a great vocalist in Gwenno Saunders, the lead singer on The Pipettes biggest hit to date ”Pull Shapes” and living proof that the Welsh, from Jones and Bassey onwards, have the best pipes. Gwenno’s sister Ani was recruited to reinforce that theory and Alex White (of The Electric Soft Parade and Brakes) completed the new line-up on drums.

The Martin Rushent-produced new single ‘Stop The Music’ is released on the Fortuna POP! label responsible for last year’s indie smash The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and includes a remix by Justus Köhncke of Kompakt. The track is a gleaming disco ballad inspired by the dance scenes in Spike Lee’s film ‘Summer Of Sam’. It continues the themes of their debut – speculating wildly on why boys remain a constant source of trouble – but projects these issues into a different place and time. The girls who once doted on the harmonies of the Ronnettes now play out their relationships to the beat of the discotheque. Studio 54, Larry Levan and Philly soul influence the beat and strings, frustration and sadness make the melody, creating a slab of dramatic pop with a classic chorus hook that never ages. From Thelma Houston’s ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’ to Robyn and Kleerup’s ‘With Every Heartbeat’, sadness and a fat beat always make for the best pop. Once again The Pipettes are ready to use the past to trail blaze into the future.

The Pipettes: Gwenno, Ani, Monsterbobby, Seb, Alex and Jon

Posted on 08 January 2010 by Emma

CASXIO
UK debut ‘SEVENTEEN’ EP out March 8th
Debut UK tour 2010- dates to be announced

SEVENTEEN EP: 1. Seventeen/ 2. Boiling Point/ 3. Seventeen (Skrillex AKA Sonny Moore Remix)/4. Seventeen (The Glass Remix)/ 5. Seventeen (Golden vs. Public Remix)/ 6. Seventeen (Video)

Hot new act Casxio are burning brightly from the sunny shores of Los Angeles with their unique brand of upbeat disco funk. Having spent the past year touring around the states, including CMJ Festival in October, Casxio have set their sights on the UK for 2010. The band are proud to announce the March 8th release of their ‘Seventeen’ EP- a refreshing divine fusion of disco, funk and rock n’ roll. Reminiscent of a sound that first infiltrated our airwaves over a quarter of a century ago, Casxio is what happens when Prince, the Talking Heads, and Sly Stone all get their hearts broken by the same girl.

The Seventeen track from this exciting debut EP has even been featured a commercial for Sony’s Webbie HD Camera in conjunction with MTV’s Real World series, and also was placed in NBC’s brand new hospital drama Mercy. Second track on the EP ‘Boiling Point’ reveals the smooth and soulful side to the band’s sound and it also features a range of remixes by The Glass, Golden vs. Public (Sam Sparro’s production team), and Sonny Moore (frontman of rock outfit From First to Last).

Formed by frontman Lucas Guerin, Casxio consist of joined Eric Saez (guitar), Andrea Choe (keys) and Zach Schrock (drums)- the band have developed an impressive retinue, hailed by critics and garnering a loyal following of revelers, (including cohorts Sam Sparro, Yelle and Datarock). Inspired by the soulful falsetto balladry of classic icons as diverse as Curtis Mayfield, and Hall & Oates, Casxio aim to be “more than just a friend to you“. Bringing the intensity and emotion back into a world where pop has become stagnant and disposable, this West Coast four-piece revives the timeless soul and funk feeling we’ve been long since waiting for.

ANAVRIS – ‘Eleven Eyes Of A Simple Man’ EP is out Oct 19th

Posted on 15 September 2009 by Emma

ANAVRIS – ‘Eleven Eyes Of A Simple Man’ EP is out Oct 19 on Launch Party Records.
http://www.myspace.com/anavris

Hailing from the increasingly fertile musical hub that is Glasgow, Scotland – Anavris are a four piece rock outfit with a flamboyant and complex sound.

With the emphasis on dynamics, melody AND muscle, they are quickly developing a reputation as an intriguing new proposition. With serpentine guitar lines, compelling lyrics and a colourful musical palette they offer up something truly exciting. Indeed the band are totally focused on forging their own path in the musical wilderness.

“What we see as inspiration doesn’t come from who’s on the front cover of every magazine that week,” laughs frontman Chris Alexander, “It’s the fearless bands that are out there, touring and relentlessly working hard to produce albums/live shows with substance. We love everything from Oceansize, Biffy Clyro, Reuben, Fall of Troy, At The Drive In, Brand New, Aereogramme, Muse, Mars Volta
