Fenech Soler – Release ‘Stop And Stare’

Posted on 05 March 2010 by Emma

NEW SINGLE – STOP AND STARE

RELEASED 19th APRIL ON MODA MUSIC

A spectral club-land anthem, over sparkling synths and massed ranks of percussion, Stop And Stare is the new single from Fenech-Soler, released on Moda Music on 19th April.

Fenech-Soler are hot dancefloor property right now, having recently collaborated on Groove Armada’s remarkable ‘return to form’ Paper Romance and remixed the latest Marina & The Diamonds single Hollywood into a club and blog sensation. Stop And Stare once again taps the bands gift for radio-friendly hooks and peak time floor filling.

Originally conceived as a studio project by brothers Ben and Ross Duffy, with child hood friend Dan Soler – whiling away the hours of a sleepy existence in provincial Kings Cliffe – the trio combined with drummer and studio partner Andrew Lindsay to create an unlikely production powerhouse and a formidable live act.

Brewing their own brand of fantasy pop, they were first spotted by French dance don Alan Braxe, who released debut single The Cult Of Romance on his Vulture label last summer. Introduced to London via Paris, the track picked up plays from Pete Tong, Kissy Sell Out, Eddie Temple Morris, and Annie Mac – who included the Alan Braxe mix on her 2009 compilation.  In the autumn, the follow-up single Liesreleased and championed by Jaymo & George’s Moda Music label – quickly gained the support of Zane Lowe and daytime Radio 1.

** STOP AND STARE is released on download with remixes from..

Jaymo & Andy George, Mighty Mouse, Tony Senghore and Reset.

Breaking out of their own native scene where they’ve built a huge following, Young Rebel Set’s songs are the sound of disenchanted, literate, working class young men in Northern Britain in 2010, looking for a means of escape through the music they love. Fronted by Matty Chipchase, all seven members of the band have been friends since school and include two sets of brothers, further cementing the gang spirit.

Wont Get Up Again’ is another outstanding anthem from Young Rebel Set, blending the band’s love of folk and punk into a rousing tale of stumbling down the wrong path. Their love for Dylan can be seen on ‘Bagatelle‘ which highlights the more delicate side of Chipchase’s vocals and the band’s subtle musicianship. And with ‘Rosie‘ they tell the story of a woman trying to change her wayward ways. Matty’s strong accent is as ever present, and these songs could come from nowhere else but the North East of England, adding to the band’s collective charm and individuality.

Young Rebel Set are currently working on their debut album.

Band:

Matty Chipchase - Vocals/guitar
Andy Parmley - Guitar
Chris Parmley - bass
Mark Evans - Mandolin
Paddy Jordan - Guitar / keyboard
Luke Evans - Drums
Dave Coombe – harmonica

Anonymous Tip – Announce new single + spring tour

Posted on 05 March 2010 by Emma

Anonymous Tip Announce Spring 2010 UK Tour

UK punk rock merchants Anonymous Tip are hitting the road this spring in support of their forthcoming new single ‘The Weirder Brave’ which will be available from 12th April 2010.

The Twickenham band get a lot off their collective chests on this single, which tackles the rise of the BNP. This is something particularly close to lead singer Sanj Surati’s heart.

“I used to be quite scared of the rise of the BNP back in the early 90’s. I was only about 14 but was frustrated about the idea of a political party controlling this country with race divisions as the core of their policy. The sudden recent rise of the BNP has ignited all those feelings from when I was a boy and I’m proud to have the opportunity to be releasing a song that talks about the subject.

This tour is all about positivity though and we are so looking forward to playing live again. It’s been about six months since we last did a show and we are so itching to get onstage and feel the electricity of the crowd and to get sweaty onstage. We will be playing with some awesome bands on this tour and we’ll be making it up to Scotland, which we haven’t played since 2004. Bring on the whiskey!”

The full details of the tour are as follows:

Tour dates:

3rd March 2010 – The Betsy Trotwood (W/ BLACK MANILA BEACH PARADE)

Jack Rabbit Slim – New album ‘Hairdo’s & Heartaches’

Posted on 02 March 2010 by Emma

Jack Rabbit Slim

“Hairdo’s & Heartaches”

Released: April 19th

Label:  Western Star Records

Available via iTunes and all major download sites and direct from www.western-star.co.uk

www.myspace.com/jackrabbitslimuk

Album track ‘The Gift’ has received airplay on Bob Harris’ Radio 2 show, and Geoff Barker has played album tracks on his regional BBC ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll party’ show. The band recently played a live session for BBC Cambridgeshire.

Jack Rabbit Slim are a band that have been not only hailed as a leading light in the Rockabilly world, but are making many friends and fans in other more mainstream markets. Based in Herts, Northampton, Birmingham and Beds, Jack Rabbit Slim is made up singer/songwriter Bob Butfoy, drummer Paul Saunders, guitarist Darren Lince and bassist Landon Filer.

Formed in 2004 by Bob Butfoy, the band teamed up with producer Alan Wilson of the Western Star Recording Co. Their resulting debut album “Sinuendo”, released in 2005 on Western Star Records, was a big seller and the band gigged and promoted the album relentlessly to rave reviews. The year also saw the band secure a support slot with Big Sandy & The Flyrite Boys.

By 2007 Jack Rabbit Slim had established themselves worldwide as a scene leader and their second album “Sleaze-a-Billy” (Western Star Records) won them an award for ‘outstanding sales’ from their label. “Sleaze-a-Billy” received further success with national airplay on BBC Radio 2, a mention in the Daily Telegraph and a spot in an ITV4 television documentary. The year also saw Jack Rabbit Slim reach the heady heights of the Jack Daniels Corp boardroom. The band were contacted & politely asked to delete their then popular logo, due to its similarity to the famed J.D brand!

In 2008 the band’s third album “From The Waist Down” (Western Star Records) was voted album of the year by readers of Viva le Punk, beating off stiff opposition from the likes of The Dammed & Goldblade. 2009 saw the band touring the USA West Coast, with a notable appearance at Viva Las Vegas.

2010 sees the release of Jack Rabbit Slim’s new album “Hairdo’s & Heartaches” (Western Star Records). Both the band themselves and their record label agree that this is the best album to date. High sales are expected.

High profile fans of the band include cult DJ Keb Darge (who has championed Jack Rabbit Slim for years) and sexy TV Chef Gizzi Erskine (who listed Jack Rabbit Slim as one of her favourites in a recent high profile article in award winning ladies glossy magazine Marie Claire).

Jack Rabbit Slim will be showcasing the album throughout 2010 across the UK and Europe, with a series of gigs including:

March 6 – The Blues Kitchen, Camden / March 13 – The Bailey, Co. Wexford, Ireland / March 20 – Bull & Gate, Kentish Town

Teenagersintokyo – Announce debut album and March tour

Posted on 01 March 2010 by Emma

TEENAGERSINTOKYO
Debut album ‘Sacrifice’ out June 1st
Single ‘Peter Pan’ March 8th
MARCH TOUR CONFIRMED

March 10th – London, Flowerpot

March 11th – Manchester, UK – Sound Control
March 27th – Luton, UK – Dark Party
March 17th – Cardiff, UK – Buffalo Bar

May 21st – London, UK – Stag and Dagger Festival
May 22nd – Liverpool, UK – Sound City Festival
June 15th – Cambridge, UK – Cambridge Summer Ball

TEENAGERSINTOKO release their debut album ‘Sacrifice’ through Backyard Recordings on 1st June 2010.

Recorded at Bryn Derwen studios deep in the welsh countryside with Faultline mainman and twice Mercury Prize nominated Bat For Lashes producer David Kosten; ‘Sacrifice’ draws together the most exciting subterranean music of the past thirty years. Sinister, crawling synths marry pulsing rhythms and screaming guitars.

In a short space of time TEENAGERSINTOKO have come from nothing to quickly rising as one of the bands to watch in 2010; selling out venues across the UK, bagging support from the likes of Zane Lowe and the NME; and most recently topping the Hype Machine chart with The Horrors remix of ‘Peter Pan’. Following the celebrated release of their self-titled EP in 2008 the band caught everyone’s attention, landing themselves international acclaim, support slots with CSS, The Slits & Gossip, a record deal with Backyard and a move to the other side of the world.

The result is debut album ‘Sacrifice’; an album that promises delight, thick in imagery, where landscapes and fire dominate the pastoral gloom. Album references are immaculate: ‘Isabella’ recalls prime era Siouxie & The Banshees with a serrated electro punk edge; while ‘Long Walk Home’ is awash with Joy Division synth swatches. The relative light and optimism of ‘New Day’ is outweighed by the emotional calamity of ‘End It Tonight’, and new single ‘Peter Pan’, whips, lashes and sparks like a loose electric cable. The bass is tar thick, the drums edgy and jittering, the guitars sharp and slicing. And caught in the centre, singer Samantha Lim’s veneer of fragile innocence fractures and collapses to allow glimpses to the turmoil beneath. It’s a crooked shadow racing for the dancefloor with its knives drawn.

TEENAGERSINTOKYO are poised to take their place amongst the art-pop new wave; now sultry shimmerscapes like ‘3046′ and deviant dancefloor destroyers like ‘Talk To The Fire’ and ‘Peter Pan’ are set to draw back the curtain on a more opulent Big Picture. Prepare to be dazzled, blackened, bewitched.

Broken Links to release EP “The Fine Line Between Choice/Decay”

Posted on 01 March 2010 by Emma

“The Fine Line Between Choice/Decay”
1. Reinvent  2. What Are You Waiting For  3. Shelter Your Loss  4. Therapy Sessions In The Dark  5. Choice/Decay  6. In Your Headlights

EP Released April 26th

Available via CD and download, from iTunes, Amazon, HMV, Tesco, Napster and Spotify

www.brokenlinksmusic.co.uk

Diving into the lyrical and musical depths of free association, taking you on an emotional rollercoaster of despair to complete arousal. Influenced by the under-currents of post-punk, and then boxing it up into an old stone box made of pure hard industrial pop space rock and sin. A band you simply cannot ignore. An alternative act from Eastleigh, Southampton, the three piece is made up of Mark Lawrence on vocals and guitar, Lewis Betteridge on bass and Phil Boulter on drums. Heavily influenced by the 80’s, they count Joy Division, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, The Cooper Temple Clause and ‘Holy Bible’ era Manic Street Preachers amongst their influences.

“The Fine Line Between Choice / Decay” follows up the release of Broken Links debut EP “Resisting Movement and the Almost Advisory”, released in January this year. Mintsouth recently said of Broken Links “Unsigned bands shouldn’t be this professional.” They may have only been together for a year, but their development as a band is clear, and their second EP is testament to how they have matured in this time. Broken Links’ Mark Lawrence describes ‘We wanted to go a bit wild with the 2nd EP, and we’ve done exactly what we wanted to do musically, it’s a 41 minute ride to the dark side!!’

Broken Links formed in 2008, and spent much of the year honing in on their sound and self-recording their first EP. Their debut was written without amps, using pods and floor pedals for vocal effects, and was recorded from start to finish in Mark’s bedroom, capturing Broken Links angst ridden and downright dirty live sound perfectly.

2009 saw Broken Links perform over 40 live shows, including an appearance at Eastleigh Music Festival. The band have supported established acts British Sea Power, The Boxer Rebellion, My Vitriol, Official Secrets Act, Fighting with Wire, The Cinematics, Scarlet Soho, and Flamboyant Bella, picking up some die-hard fans along the way. They have taken their live show to well established venues such as The Purple Turtle (Camden), Powers (Kilburn), Boston Music Rooms (Tufnell Park), The Joiners (Southampton), Hectors House (Brighton), iBar (Bournemouth), The Railway Inn (Winchester), and Lennons (Southampton), with full intention of leaving watchers mesmerised by the wall of sound they create. A sound certainly not expected of a three piece. Broken Links are soon to take their sound across Europe, with a German tour now confirmed. A third EP is also in the pipeline.

Broken Links will be previewing tracks from their new EP at forthcoming gigs:

March 27th – The Bitter End, Romford / April 3rd – 10th – German tour / April 24th - The Joiners Arms, Southampton (EP launch)

May 6thThe Pipeline, London / May 8th – Blue Cat Cafe, Stockport / May 10th – The Cavendish Arms, London

May 29th – Soul Cellar, Southampton / June 19th – Alresford Music Festival / Nov 28th – The Brook, Southampton

Captain Accident – Interview

Posted on 28 February 2010 by Emma

CAPTAIN ACCIDENT INTERVIEW
Words:
Caroline Pawson

Captain Accident is one of Cardiff’s best kept secrets. The brainchild of Adam Parsons, formerly of ska heroes Chemical Reaction, and metal rockers My Little Murder, Captain Accident’s sweet reggae rhythms have been blessing South Wales’ live scene, and it’s airwaves for the last twelve months.

With credit due to Captain Accident’s great songs, catchy rhythms, and also to his relentless hard work, 2010 is already shaping up to be his year.

Listen to ‘Fire, Fire, Fire’.
www.myspace.com/captainaccident

Can you give us a brief history of what you do, and how you got into the music industry?

I am a singer-songwriter & producer and have been spending the last few years writing & recording reggae & ska music. It started off as a hobby – something I would do when I felt a burst of inspiration, but as time went on, the catalogue of music grew and it seemed I was starting to develop a fairly distinctive sound. Once I had a full set worth of music, a friend suggested I take the music live rather than keeping it simply as a bedroom project. By this point (although I was unaware myself!) the songs were gaining a fair bit of popularity online to the point where I was shocked on the first gig when so many people turned up, already knowing the songs and singing along!

2009 was spent playing regularly in Cardiff, to increasingly large & receptive audiences. By mid- late 2009 it was gaining interest from various independent labels and after playing a show at the Toucan Club in Cardiff, organised by Sam Holland of SYWP Records (now Go-Steady Records) Sam & I arranged a meeting to discuss a potential release.Once both parties were happy, we moved forward and arranged for the debut single to come out in February this year.

Do you see yourself being able to carry on with the project into the future, and benefiting from carrying it on?

I will certainly carry on writing/recording & producing reggae/ska into the future and will benefit from the enjoyment I get out of it! As far as other benefits go, only time will tell!

What influenced you to go into Ska rather than any other genre?

I have always had a love for reggae & ska music. I was brought up listening to a lot of bands/artists such as Toots & the Maytals, U-Roy, Bob Marley, King Tubby and early UB40. I love the fact that the music is soulful & energetic and has a groove that gets your body moving, even if you’re unaware at the time! I guess i was influenced by the fact that I wanted to write & play the type of music I enjoy listening to most myself! That way I can keep it real!

What’s the best part of being apart of the music industry in your opinion?

Without a doubt, it’s the opportunity to spread the music far and wide and meet some amazing people!

You released your new single ‘Fire, Fire, Fire’ on 15th February, what’s the response been like from fans and press?

Although it’s early days, the response has been great so far. The launch show was the most buzzing atmosphere to date and since the single tour began the response in shows around the UK has been brilliant.

How do you get your ideas for your songs? How long does it take you to get all of your ideas down, and to be able to put them all into a song?

like to write songs that people can relate to. A lot of them come from my own personal feelings, or are inspired by other people’s situations. Sometimes a song can take a few nights to write/record; sometimes it can be completed in one evening. Often those songs that come together the quickest are the best as they naturally unfold without over-thinking them!

I understand there’s a full-length album planned for this summer, what can we expect from that?

The full-length album will contain a blend of reggae & ska with dub, rock & soul influences throughout. Expect catchy melodies, soulful vocal harmonies, soaring guitar solos and an overall groove that’ll get your bones moving!

Why did you decide to get other people involved with the live performances? How did you meet them?

I wrote and recorded all songs with a range of instruments to get the sound I was looking for, therefore the only way to possibly recreate it live is to get people in to play the shows. The live band (which are now dubbed ‘The Disasters’) are all very good friends of mine. 2 of the disasters also played in previous projects with me.

How would you describe your live performance, for those people who are thinking about going to see you live?

The live shows take you on a journey through slower ‘dubby’ sounding soul/reggae to more upbeat ska songs. There is an ever-changing pace throughout the set which is sure to keep people on their feet. As the audience you will be unable to stop yourself dancing, and the infectious chorus lines will hopefully have you singing along by the end of the show! The line up for the live shows often varies and has included steel pans & guest rappers in the past!

When will you be coming to other parts of the UK on tour?

Below are the tour dates for the single launch tour. Also looking to get around many other parts of the UK over the next few months as well as arranging a bigger tour in conjunction with the album release in the summer.

Fri 05 Mar – HOOTANANNY, BRIXTON
Sat 06 Mar – RED LION, GRAVESEND
Fri 12 Mar – RUDE BAR, TORQUAY
